March News

Please take the time to fill out this online survey about how ERCLC supports your homeschooling needs.  This will give us feedback on what we are doing well, and areas for improvement.  We would love to know what you think about homeschooling at ERCLC.

Did you receive an email invite to join ParentSquare, our new online messaging service?  By creating a free account, you can select how you want to get messages from ERCLC, use the ERCLC smartphone app, reply to messages, view pictures and more.  If you need help getting started, feel free to ask anyone on staff.

April Testing

California tests its students each year, and as a public charter school, ERCLC does as well.  The computer based test (called the CAASPP) will give us a picture of our student’s academic skills in reading, writing and math.  ERCLC’s academic performance is also a significant factor when our charter seeks renewal every five years, so these scores matter, both to help your student individually, and for our charter collectively.  While it is normal for students (and parents) to be nervous about the test– as with most things in life, we just ask them to do their best, and learn from it.

  • Who is testing?

Grades 3-8 and 11th will take the state test on the computer in individually scheduled sessions.

Grades 5, 8, and 10th will also take the state science test with pencil and paper on Wed April 6th at 9:00 or 10:30.

  • When and where?

Testing will be conducted in both Visalia and Fresno.  Students can expect to do a total of about 7 hours of testing between April 5th and April 21st, but each child has as much time as he or she needs, so your student might take significantly more or less time.  Most of this testing will be self-scheduled, and you will sign up for times with your Education Coordinator at your March meeting.

  • Individual Testing Sign-up Times (Your EC will pencil you in on the sign-up chart)

Visalia:  Sign-up times for individual testing will be available on April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 3pm, and Wednesdays from 9 to 1:30pm.

Fresno:  Sign-up times for individual testing will be available on April 4, 6, 11, 13, and 20 from 9am to 3pm.

Because staff will be busy helping the students with testing, we ask that elementary parents remain on campus during testing, since each student will be starting and finishing at different times.

  • Practice Resources:

We strongly encourage all parents and students to view and do several questions from the practice test, since it is very different from the paper and pencil tests of the past.

Go to caaspp.org and select “Student Practice Tests”, then sign in as a “Guest User,” select your grade, and click OK.  You will see several options: elect the Practice Test for your grade (not the Training Test): either .  You will not get a score from the practice test, but it does give you a chance to practice with the interface and type of questions.
